Some thoughts on my work …
Where does the individual ends and the mass starts? What is the influence of the mass on the actions and thinking of the individual? Does an individual, functioning in a given system, is freedom of choice? I see society as a whole of individuals. All these “cells” are located in a particular pattern, imposed by the masses. I understand that this is not always so, but these questions intrigue me. I sometimes see myself as an outsider but also as part of an interrelated total. An urban environment (the ants of the city) is where I’m interested in, howcan that in the city, where so many ”cells” are alive anyway loneliness is experienced? How is the ”flow” in the city? In the streams of commuters who travel daily by train tram and metro I see a particular system. Not only the low scale of the city is part of mywork, including regional, national and international levels is central to my work. To what extent can you speak about Dutch, German, or the Jew.
Depending on the situation, I choose the medium that I work, I paint, draw and work with video.
